The crocodile: a watchful guardian of wild rivers
Discover the fascinating life of the crocodile, an iconic reptile of tropical areas, known for its ferocity but also for its caring role as a parent. Between its eggs and its unique ability to determine the sex of its young based on the temperature of the nest, this reptile reveals incredible aspects of nature.
Main features:
- Unique reproduction: A female crocodile can lay up to 60 eggs in a nest and watches over them during the entire incubation period, which lasts around 80 days, often without feeding.
- A delicate maternal instinct: Once the young are ready to hatch, she carries them very gently in her mouth to take them to the river, thus protecting them from their first moment.
- Sex determination is linked to temperature: Unlike mammals, crocodile sex is determined by the temperature of the nest. At 31.5°C, the young will be males, while higher or lower temperatures will produce females.
This realistic figurine captures the power and uniqueness of the crocodile. Ideal for teaching children about wildlife and the fascinating behaviors of reptiles, it stimulates the imagination and allows them to recreate exciting scenes in tropical rivers. A great way to combine play and learning.
